St Joseph's PS partici[ated in the NI Primary Schools Girls Cup on Thursday 26th May in the Mid Ulster Sports Arena Cookstown.
In fantastic facilities but in poor weather the girls were drawn in a group of 5 agianst St Joseph's Carryduff, St Eithne's Derry, Warringstown PS, and St Patricks Newry. Once again we were the smallest school in our group! The day began with a terrific display against St Joseph's Carryduff. In a very tight match and against the run of play Carryduff scored on the break and we could not get the equaliser before time ran out. In the second match we once again dominated possesion and chances but could not get the vital goal against St Eithne's, the match finishing 0-0. The third match was against a really strong Waringstown team, we pressed them very hard in the first half, putting their goals under terrific pressure but again we could not find the killer touch in front of the net. In the second half Waringstown scored two excellent goals to run out 2-0 victors. The girls however saved the best to last, putting in a stunning performance against St Patrick's Ps Newry. In a match they dominated Hannah opened the scoring with her left foot. SHortly afterwards Emma hit a rasper to the top corner to make it 2-0. In the second half Molly added a well taken penalty to leave it 3-0 to St Joseph's.
It was a fantasic day for the girls competing against the best primary school teams in Northern Ireland, they can certainly hold their heads high after their effort and performances. They showed that they could match any school in footballing skill. They did their school, parents and themselves proud! Well done girls!!
Of course after all that effort the poor girls were starving and so were treated to a McDonalds in Cookstown. Thank you to Colin, John, Nicola, Fiona and Amy for transporting the children to Cookstown and treating them to their food afterwards.
