P5 Mrs Slagter / Mrs Montgomery

Welcome to Primary

We have 23 children in Primary 5 this year.  (10 girls and 13 boys).

Our teacher for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday is Mrs Marie-Claire Slagter and Mrs Charlotte Montgomery will be our teacher on Thursdays and Fridays.

Our assistants are Mrs D Brennan, Mrs N Caughey, Miss McMenamin and Miss Aoife (Brennan).

P5 is the first class of Key Stage Two.  Every year the work gets a bit harder, which can be daunting.  Life would be very boring if we were all the same, in our class we embrace our individuality and our unique gifts and talents.  Everyone’s successes are celebrated.  We aim for independence but know that sometimes it is okay to ask for help. We will make mistakes and we will learn from them -that’s okay.  We hope for everyone to try their best and fulfil their potential.

Below are some key days to remember when packing your school bag and getting prepared for school:

Monday: Please return Friday tests (signed by a parent / guardian) PE Gear today! Homework sent home on a Monday.

Tuesday:

Wednesday:

Thursday: PE gear today!

Friday: Spelling test and mixed mental maths test.

Children should wear FULL school uniform. This includes yellow polo shirt, blue jumper with school crest, plain BLACK shoes or plain BLACK trainers and smart grey trousers, skirt or pinafore.
Jogging bottoms and leggings are not permitted on these days.

On PE days, children may wear school jogging bottoms, PLAIN black/grey leggings/jogging bottoms. No detailing should be visible. Patterned leggings are NOT appropriate school uniform.

Homework reading, mental maths and spellings to be practised every night if possible.  Written homework will alternate between Numeracy and Literacy, it can be completed whenever is most appropriate for your family but must be brought back into school by Friday morning.

Monday - Friday : Children need a HEALTHY snack each day (bread based snack, fruit, veg or a yoghurt) and hot dinners must be booked before midnight the previous day using the school money system.

Don’t forget your water bottle. Water / sugarfree still flavoured water only in waterbottles during class time and fruit juice (not fizzy) can be brought with you for lunch time.  Plain water will only be permitted on desks.

We adhere to a healthy school’s policy in Saint Joseph's. Please be mindful of this when packing lunch boxes.
