Netball Champions
St Joseph's P.S attended a netball tournament on Monday 7th February in St Colmcilles PS. There were 18 teams competing, with ten of them in the top section, including St joseph's. The tournament was organised by Down Netball Coach Vanessa Robinson and proved a very enjoyable day for the girls. They began the day slowly losing to St McCartans narrowly 3-2 in the first group game. The girls then regained their confidence with a 4-2 win against Bunscoil Downpatrick. This win qualified the girls for a semi-final against St Patricks PS Ballynahinch. In an exciting game the girls prevailed with a 4-3 win. In a very tense final Melissa scored the only goal to secure victory over their earlier rivals St McCartans.
The girls returned to St Joseph's ecstatic with their victory and sporting a beautiful trophy and a medal each. The whole team was fantastic and deserves a lot of credit for their hard work in after schools and their effort on the day. They were captained by Hannah with Niamh C, Molly, Melissa, Cait, Emma, Niamh M and Cara playing vital roles. Thank you to Liz Bell and Ms Mullan who transported the team and mentored them to victory and thank you also to Vanessa Robinson for organising the tournament and coaching the girls. Well done Girls!!
