Primary 7 Residential
On Monday 21st June St Joseph’s Primary 7 class went to Greenhill YMCA for their residential. Excited children began the morning packing their suitcases into the bus (which looked like they were staying for a month not a night.) They arrived at Greenhill to be met by Mischa who showed them to their apartments and outlined the programme for the two days. Once dorms were assigned and children had made up their beds they had their lunch.
After lunch the first activity was medium boldering along a river in Tullymore forest. The children thoroughly enjoyed this and everyone got soaked despite their best efforts to stay dry. A few children even decided to swim in different parts of the river! Following a quick wash next up was dinner thankfully as everybody was starving. Sausages, sautéed potatoes peas and gravy followed by ice cream was devoured quickly.
After dinner the group walked down into Newcastle for some fun. A trip to the amusements was really enjoyable with children spending their money on dodgems and many other games. Highlight of the amusements was definitely Jessica winning a cuddly toy! After the amusements the children visited Bon Bons, Tip Top and Mauds and were absolutely stuffed by the time they had to walk back to the apartment. A DVD of Alice in Wonderland was enjoyed and everyone went to sleep at lights out 11:00am NOT!
There were some tired, heavy heads at 7:45am on Tuesday morning not to mention some of the early morning hairstyles! Breakfast was followed by archery and the aerial run way. Megan proved to be the hot shot in her archery group with Jack Hood being top in the other group. The aerial run way proved too frightening for some but those who did brave it had great fun zipping down at speed. It was even strong enough to stop Mr Coulter landing in the centre of Newcastle town!
When the apartment was cleaned and dinner of pasta and sausage rolls was scoffed it was time to return to St Joseph’s. It was a fantastic break for the children and great way to end their year in St Josephs. Well done P7, enjoy your holidays and good luck in your new schools!
