Residential 2012
The exciting residential started on Wednesday the 13th of June 2012 for primary 6 and 7 with Glasswater primary school. The bus journey to Fermanagh took about two hours. When we got to the Share Centre we were shown to our chalets, the boys were in one chalet and the girls were in the other. All the P7 boys were in one room.
After I unpacked I went down to the dinner hall and had pizza. Just outside the dinner hall there were two vending machines one with drink and one with food which everyone spent there money on. When we were finished our lunch we were shown around the Share Centre then I went to our chalets to get which of the three groups I was in. It was good that I was in a group with my two best friends Caolan and Conor.
The group I was in went canoeing. We went canoeing to a small island and we played a game called the paddle game. In the paddle game when the woman called right or left you had to get the persons paddle on the right or left of you. If you didn’t get the paddle you had to get an army, necky, leggy, shampoo or facial. An army was cold water poured into the arm of your wetsuit, a necky was it poured into the back of your wetsuit, a leggy was just it poured down your leg, shampoo was wet mud in your hair, facial was mud all over your face and the winner was thrown into the sea. After that we went canoeing to a jetty and did jetty jumping. Then the woman said we were going to have a stylish jump competition. I did a football kick jump. When competition was over the woman said she would tell us the competition winner later. The competition was now over so we asked if the boys could have a race against the girls and the woman said yes. We hopped in our canoes and rowed as fast as we could and we made it to the dock a mile in front of the other team. When they finally got in they made an excuse which was that they weren’t trying.
We got changed and ran back up to our chalets to get ready for dinner. We had dinner then we went to a park were Caolan, Dylan (another one of my friends) and I played we will rock you on these giant drums. Later on that night we were called up to do swimming in the leisure suite. When we got down to the we got changed and went swimming. After swimming we played a game of football on the football pitch then we went inside to watch the match on TV. When the match was over we went to bed which was at 10:30pm.
The next morning we were up at 8:00am to get breakfast. When breakfast was over we went to get ready for combat corps at 10:00am. At 10:00 we went to a forest but before we did it we were explained the rules and we could get our faces painted if we wanted to. My friend Conor painted mine completely black. We played four games capture the flag twice, VIP (a game were you had to protect one person in your team, I was the VIP) and last man standing. In capture the flag I had an encounter with the shoe eater, a thing that if you walked into your foot would get sucked down into it and your shoe would come off.
When combat corps was over we went to lunch then we went to the amazing Banana boating. In banana boating if you didn’t get to go out on the banana boat you got to jetty jump. When it was over we had to get changed to go to dinner. We didn’t get time to walk around because there was a disco on. The disco lasted for about two and a half hours from 8:00 to 10:30. When it was over we got changed and went to bed.
On Friday morning we had to have our breakfast quick because the activities were at 9:30 instead of 10:00. The activities on Friday were rock climbing, pedal go-karting and foozball. All of the activities were really fun and in rock climbing Dylan and me were the only boys to get to the top. When all the activities were done we had to get our lunch. After the lunch was over we had to wait on the bus coming to get us we were waiting a long time on the bus coming so Mr.Coulter rang the bus company and it turned out the bus had broke down on its way to get us so we had to wait another hour. When the bus came we had to put our suitcases in the bus and got in. About half an hour later we pulled over and we had to get on another bus. I got on the bus and sat down but then water started dripping on my head. I looked to see a leak in the ceiling of the bus and every couple of minutes I had to wipe it with my curtain on the window. The bus journey was shorter this time because it was only about an hour and a half. When we got back to Crossgar it was raining like mad I got out of the bus with my suitcase and ran to my dads work. When I got in I told him all about the trip.
