Victorian Day
Primary 6 and 7 enjoyed an excellent Victorian Day at Palace Stables Armagh on Thursday 17th February. Following a long bus journey the children were allowed a snack before being told all about the facilities at Palace Stables by their guide, Allan. There was a short discussion about the Victorian era, its impact on Armagh and how the Palace Stables functioned. Children were then brought to meet the butler who discussed the many different jobs that were needed in a Victorian estate.
The children's next port of call was a Victorian classroom including an extremely strict teacher called Mrs Wilson. She soon had the children standing to attention to have their shoes and hands inspected. The children then experienced several types of lessons in a victorian classroom, including prayer, drill and handwriting on slates. They soon realised how lucky they were to have such nice teachers in St Joseph's!
Following their horrific experience in the school house the children then visited the church and the stables, then finished the morning of with a drama. Several of the children got to dress in Victorian clothes and act out a day in a life of a Victorian family. After a quick lunch the children made the long journey back to St Joseph's. It was a really enjoyable and educational day.
