Welcome Back P5

21st Feb 2021

Hello, my lovely primary 5 children,

I just want to thank you all for being so patient and working so hard over the last 6 weeks. I know it's been very difficult and hasn't been fun all the time but please know that your teachers have felt the same way and we can't wait to have you back in the classroom with us.

So, welcome back to another half term of remote learning. We have a lot to get through this half term, so please be your usual engaged and hardworking selves and let's get going and have a great half term together online.

I wanted to give you all an idea of how this half term is going to look. I have created a new Google Classroom and it is called “Primary 5 term 2B” and it will appear on your Google classroom when you log in. I have added everyone to this new Google Classroom so there is nothing you need to do to access it.

Numeracy - this half term in numeracy we will be taking a huge focus on problem solving. Problem solving is tricky. It requires you to put those skills of perseverance and resilience to good use. You won't always get it right the first time and that's okay. I know a lot of you like to play computer games and problem solving is a little bit like that. I'm sure that you've tried to complete levels or tasks several times before you get it right or learn how to complete that level or task correctly. That's exactly like problem solving - you may have to try it a couple of different ways to find the right way.

It's important that you try this yourself, independently. Asking adults at home is only going to show me their problem-solving skills and not your own problem-solving skills. So please, where possible - do this work on your own.

You will be continuing to work with Mrs McArdle on a Friday and I know I know she is very excited to have you back with her too. You will be continuing to look at times tables and you will also be starting a lovely new topic of “Weight”.

Literacy - In literacy, this half term, we will be looking at report writing. This will start on Wednesday. We will look at this genre of writing on a Monday and Wednesday each week. On a Tuesday we will continue to look at grammar and word study. Thursdays will still be comprehension days.

Mrs McArdle will continue to work with you on phonics and spellings as well as some additional grammar tasks .

Religion (Grow In Love) - In Religion, we will be looking at the Easter Storey as we approach Easter.

WAU - Our topic is food. I have created a topic grid with six activities. Each week you can choose one activity to complete . You can choose whichever activity you like but you must complete a new one each week and not repeat previous tasks.

Health and Well-being -  This half-term focus is growth mindset.

ICT - We will be looking at various camera angles this half term in ICT and trying to teach you to become better videographers and photographers. We will continue to use Google Classroom as a platform for learning which covers our ICT use.

PE -  There is still one week left of Fitness February, so please make sure to get your times in and we'll see who the winner is in our class. We will hopefully be seeing more of Oisin this half term. Joe Wicks has a YouTube channel which is fantastic and can be accessed at any time, not just when it's live.

Art and Music -  I have some lovely ideas of art activities to keep you busy this half term.

Please make sure to continue to stay engaged on Google classroom. Handing in your work is important so that I can feedback your attendance to Mrs McArdle and Mrs Dainty.

There will be no zoom call on Monday or on Thursday as I am in school these days but I will see you all at 9:45 AM on Tuesday for a little check in.

For anyone who has ordered a pack for 22nd Feb – 5th March please collect between 11:30 AM and 1:00 PM tomorrow (22.02.21)

Keeping working hard my busy little bees.

Miss Colhoun
